With killer colors and an action designed to mimic large forage, the Lucky Craft Flash Minnow 190 Magma in the new Exotic Predator Series should prove to be deadly for big game species such as striped bass, big walleye, muskie and pike.
The Flash Minnow 190 is 7 ½ inches long and weighs 2 ounces (without the hooks). Currently available in the Offshore Game Series, it is available in Pearl White, Zebra Sardine, Laser Ghost Sardine and Aurora Green Shad. The saltwater version is effective on dolphin, red snapper, yellowfin tuna, wahoo and amberjack.
Ten colors for northern species in the new Exotic Predator Series lineup will be Sexy Chartreuse Shad, MS MJ Herring, Laser Rainbow Trout, Parrot Shad, Cream Yellow Perch, Flash Blue Herring, Ghost Rainbow Trout, Ghost Northern Pike, Aurora Gold Northern Perch, and Ghost Bluegill.
Lucky Craft pro staffer Cary Bever of Wisconsin has thrown the Flash Minnow 190 and likens it “to the Flash Minnow 110 on steroids but the 190 Magma is for fish on steroids. I think it’s one of the best in that series.”
Bever said the size and weight of the Flash Minnow 190 allows anglers to troll it effectively with full wire, downriggers or other trolling rigs. Bever said he’s trolled it “from decimal speeds to 6 mph and it runs right every time, with that great side-to-side wobble.” Casting also is easy due to the internal weight-transfer system.
The Flash Minnow 190’s new color patterns will be designed specifically for northern lakes, which may be clear as a bell or have some tannic stain in some areas. Bever said the 10-color lineup should fit just about any water clarity.
“I like the Flash Blue Herring to mimic some of the pelagic forage we have up north, and one of my favorite colors for anywhere on the planet is the Sexy Chartreuse Shad,” he said. “Those are good colors to begin with and then, if necessary, adjust to a different color if the fish aren’t biting them as well.
“My main factor for lure color is the water color. In areas with tannic water, which may be the shade of weak iced tea to stout coffee, some of the gaudy colors like Aurora Green Shad or Cream Yellow Perch really stand out. That helps these fish, which are primarily sight-feeders, key in on the bait.”
